Russia provides so much in-depth coverage of it 's military hardware whereas the US & China are overzealous in protecting any information related to their military .
Sujoy, US military has such a world class propaganda machine as Discovery TV channel, which became before years into a trumpet of US achievements in human killing.
You have hit the nail right on the head. But it doesn't stop with Discovery channel .
The US is now planting news in Indian papers that C 130 was delivered to India before schedule and the Indo Russian Muti Role Transport Aircraft is facing technical problems in Russia .
I think Russia needs to aggressively market itself in India as the US is striking deals with even minor Indian defense companies so as to make India dependent on US products for days to come.
sujaoy , russia can amrket all it wants but india has bene infiltrated by an american spy uenelcted harami gaddaqr traitor manmohns ingh and his punjbai coteir of monteck ahullwalia who are workign over time to enlsave idnia for usa. unelss manmohan singh is caught and hanged from neasrest tree, inida is doomed.
Indian anglophile class -especially indian english language media -is a race of Coolies and traitors. the same class of indians who are doing propaganda agasinty china today are the same people who forced rajiv gandhi in 1987 to make friendship with china(and recognise tibet as part of china) why-? because the usa had ben friend with china since 1984 and wanted india tobe friend too as opposed to russia.-therefore the indian parasite class foll=made the Indian foreign policy viz china not to suit india but to suit american interests-it is doing the same but in revere direction this time because their anglo-american masters want them to do so.the same indian elite class (for example the president of ranbaxy ,a sikh, chairman of FICCi at the time in 80s was vehemently opposing any6 defence increase of buying of defence equioments while asking dfor freidnship with r=china qas desired by usa ain 80s). the same FICCi is making propaganda agasint DRDo and(with 6% of defence budget) and indian scintisits saying it has not kept the develpopmnet of innovations and kept the 50 yurs old mig 21 not in shape!.) These same indian traitors want india to buy 40 yrs old arms (like junk f16 and f-18) from america knowing fully well that it comes with a heavy conditions unlike almost condition free and better arms(new mig-35) from russia.-but then thse elites are agents of angnlo american interests -so no surprise here-it is high time that thse elites are killed or kicked out of india-these are allwais(iraqi traitor) of india.• Russia is already supplying India with the Sukhoi-30MKI, an advanced "fourth generation" warplane that consistently defeats its Western counterparts, such as the frontline US fighters, the F-15C and F-16. Versions of the Su-30 are also being sold to China, Venezuela, and Malaysia.
The European Defense Agency released the "Precision Guided Ammunition (PGA) Roadmap and Implementation Plan" study last week . I do not have the English link or pdf of this study but got a Hindi translation . It seems without directly naming Russia it states that Russia's ability to design PGM's is questionable and further states that PGM's can accurately take out enemy missile silos.
Does Russia have a PGM program underway to design cutting edge PGM's.
To be perfectly honest that is really funny that the European Defence Agency has said such a thing.
You might want to do a checkup to find out what this agency is and what nations it consists of... I believe you will find it is just another loony rightwing thinktank.
The Glonass now operational and a Russian commitment to greatly increase the fraction of guided weapons in its arsenal I think Europe should think more about its own problems.
The Russians don't plan to take out US or British or French weapon silos because there is zero chance of there being a possibility of that being useful.
ICBMs in silos means you have penetrated thousands of kms of Russian air space without Russia detecting you and launching those weapons.
Even if they hit every Russian weapon silo they have several hundred missiles on the back of trucks that European and US PGM had a pitiful record of hitting in several wars against poorly equipped third world countries with complete air control and very little interference...
Can I just mention that France currently uses Russian Krasnopol-M 155mm laser guided artillery shells, and that the most effective Russian weapon used in the conflict in Georgia was probably the Iskander and Tochka-U.
The Russians have also developed an electronic fuze and guidance kit for 152mm calibre ammo and larger that will guarantee the shell lands within 10m of the target 24/7 in any weather... and it only costs $1,000 per fuse... which is incredibly cheap and exactly 50 times cheaper than the western equivalent called Excalibur.
Should Russia still spend money on developing AESA radars given the fact that Infra Red does a better job in detecting aircrafts , including stealth aircrafts.
IR systems have limitations and advantages, just as radar has advantages and limitations.
Radar gives full all weather capability and gives location and speed and distance information.
With investment AESA radars will become cheaper and smaller and more capable, and it seems that they will be using AESA radars on land, at sea, in the air and in spaceand their applications will only expand over time.
Most current stealth is directed at short bands like X band radar, yet Russia has built interesting new radar arrays in VHF and HF frequency ranges that should be able to detect stealthy aircraft at extended ranges.
AESA is certainly the way forward, though their expertise in PESA should be an advantage and also a cheaper alternative for some applications till the cost of AESA comes down.
Multi sensor fusing was incorporated in the Mig-29 and Su-27 in the 1980s.
Radar plus IRST and helmet mounted sights all combined to offer the pilot several ways of locking the target engagement system and missile seekers directly onto targets without having to manouver the aircraft as with previous types.
The PAK FA will of course take it all a few steps further, with at least 5 different AESA antenna arrays looking at different directions using different frequencies, and of course a 360 degree IR detection system integrated into the defence and attack systems.
US fighter aircraft engines have a Mean Time Between Failure of 2000 hrs whereas Russian fighter aircraft engines have a Mean Time Between Failure of 1200 hrs . Does Russia plan to improve it's Mean Time Between Failure for existing and future aircrafts.
The C-17 came with all sorts of promises of so many thousands of landings and so many thousand airframe and engine hours for the Australians... as long as they didn't use it from short rough airfields...
I think you will find the US engine lift figures will suddenly shrink if for instance the Indian AF actually want to break the speed of sound occasionally, and these figures will plummet if you want to fly low over dusty areas or harsh conditions.
The Russians used to have a very practical support regime in place that on paper looked expensive, but in pactical terms meant during a real conflict you armed and fuelled the planes and properly lubricated them and sent them into battle and they didn't need much work for quite a while. The western system is much more labour intensive and required X ray inspections looking for cracks and wear on all the components and internal diagnostic systems to warn of problems... the Soviets just calculated the worst case life of a part and just replaced it without inspection... quicker and easier but much more expensive in terms of parts.
Now the Russians have incorporated diagnostic systems and are using support regimes similar to those used in the west.
... bad for combat, but cheaper for peacetime.
Russian times will inflate, but in real terms if you want to use the equipment then there is actually little to choose between them.
It is like the current financial crisis... western accounting practises let them hide debt right up until they were near collapse and needed bailouts... they get a bailout and confidence in the company returns and oops... there was some more debt we had not put on our balance sheets... seems to me the Russian accounting methods are turning out to be far superior than western ones too... the Russians seem rather more conservative and realistic, while the western companies are greedy and see only the profit... even when it is not real.
India is purchasing 42 upgraded Su-30MKI “Super 30” fighters from Russia. Is the Super 30 the same as SU 35S ? Capability wise I do not see much difference . Infact I understand the Super 30 can also do most of the work that the SU 34 is currently assigned to do .
The Su-34 is optimised specifically for the strike role and its side by side seating allows better communication for the crew and of course the opportunity to stand up or lie down during a long mission, which of course is not possible in a tandem seat aircraft.
It is very much like the difference between traveling in a train and traveling on a motorbike.
